Meet Dr. Richard Repass
Chief Medical Director
Meet Dr. Richard Repass, Chief Medical Officer! Dr. Repass brings a long history of working in healthcare to the role, having worked in both the psychiatric and addiction fields of medicine.
Dr. Repass started his career in Louisville, Kentucky, where he completed his medical training before transferring to psychiatry. Following his time in Kentucky, Dr. Repass moved to Minnesota to work for Hutchinson Healthcare, where he operated as the General Psychiatrist and ECT provider.
Dr. RePass’s career brought him to the Pacific Northwest when a former medical school classmate invited him to come to Washington to work at Schick Shadel Hospital. The hospital focused on providing addiction treatment to clients in Burien, WA. “I learned a great deal about alternative methods of treating addiction, and that has been my passion ever since,” shared Repass. Following his time at Schick Shadel, Dr. Repass was able to open his own clinic in 2018, which is still functioning today.
Dr. Repass was drawn to Comprehensive Healthcare when he found himself contemplating a way to make a more significant difference in the behavioral healthcare field. “I felt like I needed to do more,” Repass explained. “I wanted to enact change in the world of psychiatric and addiction treatment. And I think the only way that will happen is through some grassroots effort.” He sees his new role at Comprehensive Healthcare as a way to influence more systemic changes, sharing his vision with fellow clinicians and driving much-needed reforms in the field. Dr. Repass is eager to collaborate with the Comprehensive Healthcare team to address these issues.
Transitioning into his role, Dr. Repass worked alongside Dr. Frank Garner, our former Chief Medical Officer who retired in November. “We have very thoughtfully and carefully considered quite a number of candidates for the Chief Medical Officer position over the course of the past year,” Dr. Garner shared. “We are very pleased to have found Dr. Repass. I believe he will be a good fit into our organization in his thoughtful temperament, good humor, clinical experience, and preference towards excellent patient care.”
Together, Drs. Repass and Garner focused on ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities. “We’re going to start with Dr. Garner introducing me to everyone and the processes, and then I’ll integrate slowly, taking on increasing responsibilities over the next two months,” he explained. Dr. Garner will also assist in onboarding our new Medical Director for addiction services during this time.
Outside of work, Dr. Repass is a devoted father to two high school-aged sons. He finds joy in supporting his children and spending time in nature, going on hikes and enjoying the great outdoors.
We are so excited to have Dr. Repass join our team, and we look forward to the expertise and passion he will bring to Comprehensive Healthcare. His dedication to improving mental health and addiction care aligns with our strategic vision, and we are confident that under his leadership, we will continue to make a positive impact in our community.
