Selah Evaluation and Treatment Program:

Guiding Clients Towards Recovery

The Selah Evaluation and Treatment (E&T) program reopened its doors on January 22nd, welcoming individuals seeking support and guidance during challenging times. To gain deeper insights into the program’s objectives, services, and unique approach, we had the privilege of interviewing Joann Hurley, the Program Manager of Selah E&T.

Joann, who brings over 16 years of experience with the agency, now leads the Selah E&T program, overseeing its operations and ensuring the well-being of clients and staff alike. She emphasizes a holistic approach to treatment: “Our everyday role is to ensure the safety of the milieu with our clients and staff, providing direct care to our clients and making sure that their needs are being met.”

The Selah E&T program offers diverse services tailored to meet its clients’ specific and unique needs. Joann elaborates, “We provide educational groups, community sessions, and therapist-led group therapy sessions.” Individual therapy sessions and medication management consultations are also offered to address specific needs effectively.

One of the program’s standout features is its commitment to discharge planning from the moment of admission. The dedicated discharge coordinator initiates planning immediately, ensuring that clients have appointments scheduled post-discharge, thus facilitating a seamless transition into continued care.

Operating as a locked psychiatric inpatient facility, Selah E&T provides a structured environment conducive to healing and recovery. While clients may initially struggle with the transition, the program’s skilled team works tirelessly to build rapport and provide support, fostering a sense of trust and safety. Joann acknowledges the challenges of this setting, stating, “It’s mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting, but our strong team works together, supporting each other every step of the way.”

Despite the program’s recent reopening, it has witnessed several success stories. Joann shares, “We’ve had eight discharges since reopening, and each one represents a significant milestone. It’s heartwarming to see our clients progress and grow during their time with us.”

The story of one of the first clients discharged from the program resonates deeply with staff and clients alike. Despite facing numerous setbacks along his journey to recovery, this client’s perseverance and resilience left an indelible mark on those who supported him. Witnessing his transformation from uncertainty to hope, the staff rallied around him with unwavering compassion and empathy. “He will be one that we remember for a very long time,” Joann reflects. His departure symbolized not just an end but a new beginning, filled with possibilities and the promise of a brighter future.

Looking ahead, the program aims to expand its capacity and enhance services to serve a broader clientele. Joann envisions a future where Selah E&T continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves, empowering them to reclaim their health and well-being.

For individuals navigating mental health challenges, the Selah Evaluation and Treatment program stands as a beacon of hope. With its comprehensive approach to care, dedicated team of professionals, and unwavering commitment to client-centered treatment, Selah E&T remains steadfast in guiding clients toward a brighter tomorrow. We’re excited to continue to bear witness to the program’s continued success moving forward.
